A campus bird walk at S.C.S (A) College, led by Abhilipsa Nayak, introduced participants to the common yet fascinating birdlife thriving in an urban campus setting. Open grounds hosted Yellow-wattled Lapwings, while Black Kites circled overhead and Black Drongos perched prominently. The campus trees and built spaces supported familiar species such as Red-whiskered and Red-vented Bulbuls, Oriental Magpie-Robin, and the ever-present mynas, crows, pigeons, and Spotted Doves. A striking White-throated Kingfisher added a splash of color, making for an engaging and accessible birding experience.

Following the bird walk, participants took part in creative activities that deepened their connection with the birds they had observed. Bird-themed origami sessions and drawing exercises encouraged everyone to reflect on their favorite sightings, blending art with nature learning. The combination of observation and creativity made the event both educational and interactive, leaving participants with a lasting appreciation for everyday birdlife.

Bird Guide: Abhilipsa Nayak
Abhilipsa Nayak is an undergraduate student of Zoology at Samanta Chandra Sekhar Autonomous College, Odisha, with a strong interest in birds, biodiversity, and conservation. Her passion for birding is rooted in a deep curiosity about avian ecology and a desire to help others connect with nature. As a bird guide, she leads engaging bird walks where she shares her knowledge while continuing to learn through field experiences and interactions with participants. Through these experiences, she is building a strong foundation in field-based learning while fostering awareness and appreciation for birds and their habitats among a wider community.
