Campus Bird Walk at Delhi Technological University

Highlights from the Event

A campus bird walk at Delhi Technological University, led by Anjali Bhardwaj, revealed an impressive diversity of birdlife thriving within an urban academic setting. Raptors were a strong presence, with multiple sightings of Shikra and Black Kite, while the notable Red-naped Ibis added interest to open areas. Large flocks of Rosy Starlings and Rose-ringed Parakeets created lively movement across the campus, accompanied by Indian Pied Starlings and common urban species like mynas, crows, and pigeons.

The campus trees supported a rich mix of arboreal birds, including Indian Grey Hornbill, Coppersmith and Brown-headed Barbets, and a variety of parakeets such as Alexandrine and Plum-headed. Smaller birds like Purple Sunbird, Indian White-eye, and Common Tailorbird were active among the foliage, while Rufous Treepie, Jungle Babbler, and Oriental Magpie-Robin added to the activity on the ground and mid-canopy. Bulbuls, doves, and a Yellow-footed Green-Pigeon rounded off the checklist, making the walk a well-rounded experience that highlighted the ecological value of urban green spaces for bird diversity and learning.
