Highlights from the Event

A campus bird walk at Maa Vaishno Teachers Training College, led by Bhuvnesh Kumar, showcased the diverse birdlife supported by the campus and its surrounding semi-arid landscape. Raptors like Shikra, Brahminy Kite, and Black Kite were observed overhead, while a Common Kingfisher hinted at nearby water sources. Ground and open-area species such as Grey Francolin and Red-wattled Lapwing added to the habitat variety, alongside commonly seen birds like Rock Pigeons, mynas, crows, and doves.

The campus trees and scrub hosted a lively mix of species, with Rufous Treepies, Jungle Babblers, and Oriental Magpie-Robins actively moving through the vegetation. Bright additions like Indian Golden Oriole, Small Minivet, and Purple Sunbird brought color to the walk, while prinias and Indian Robin kept the undergrowth busy. Parakeets, bulbuls, and House Sparrows added to the overall abundance, and sightings of Asian Barn Owls provided a notable highlight. The walk offered participants a well-rounded introduction to campus birding while emphasizing observation skills and appreciation of everyday biodiversity.
